Albania's Contested elections Part II
FRIDAY, MAY 20 2011
Albania's attempts to show its European neighbors that it can hold an uncontested election have again failed: nearly two weeks after the elections were held, winners have not been announced and the Election Commission seems to be rewriting its rules as they go. A new report was published today by the International Crisis Group states that "These legal and technical disputes now risk exacerbating an already deep and resentful political conflict between [Edi] Rama, still the sitting Mayor of the capital city, and Albanian's Prime Minister Sali Berisha and their respective supporters. Public protests risk becoming violent in the currently highly charged environment." TUESDAY, MAY 10 2011
